How to charge a new Canon BP-617 battery?

After produced from factory , new Canon BP-617 batteries are shipped in a discharged condition or with very low capacity and must charged before use. People generally recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours). Refer to the user's manual for charging instructions. Rechargeable new Canon BP-617 camcorder batteries should be cycled (fully charged and then fully discharged) three to five times initially to allow them to reach their full capacity.
